BPC-157 (Body Protective Compound-157) is a synthetic peptide derived from a protein naturally found in human gastric juice. It is heavily researched in animal models for its purported ability to accelerate the healing of tendons, ligaments, and muscles. However, it is an investigational compound without FDA approval for human use.

What the Science Says

  • Tissue Repair: In rodent and cell studies, BPC-157 accelerates the healing of tendons, ligaments, muscles, and bones. It is hypothesized to do this by promoting angiogenesis (the formation of new blood vessels) and up-regulating growth hormone receptors.

  • Gut Health: Originally investigated for its cytoprotective properties in the gastrointestinal tract, some preclinical research suggests it may protect the stomach lining and reduce inflammation.

Current Status in Humans

  • Lack of Clinical Trials: There is an extreme lack of rigorous, large-scale human randomized controlled trials verifying its efficacy or safety. While some small retrospective studies and anecdotal reports suggest potential benefits in pain reduction, robust human data is practically non-existent.
